Dear Members,
It gives me great pleasure to present you the annual report
of the Indian Society for Advancement of Materials and Process
Engineering for the year 2002-2003.
Honorary Membership of ISAMPE:
ISAMPE has honoured eminent persons in the field of Materials
and Processing with Honorary Membership of the Society. During
the 16th AGM on 9th Aug 2002, ISAMPE honoured Prof AK Rao, founder
President, ISAMPE, Padmashri Dr CG Krishnadas Nair, Chairman
Society for Indian Aerospace Technology and Industry (SIATI),
past President, ISAMPE and Former Chairman of HAL and Dr Kota

Honorary Membership Citation on 14th April 2003 at Dr Ambedkar
Institute of Technology, Bangalore. This function followed the
inauguration of "Vijay Zaveri Centre for Composites"
at Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology. Technical lectures by

ISAMPE Web-Site/e-Souvenir
Last year ISAMPE, Trivandrum Chapter had taken initiative to
launch the website www.isampe.org and this was extensively used
for organising the INCCOM-1 Seminar at Trivandrum. I am happy
to inform that on 11th July 2003 ISAMPE relaunched this web
site with necessary modifications and additional features like
e souvenir, an electronic version of souvenir. The function
had Dr BR Somashekar, past President, ISAMPE, as the Chief Guest.
Dr AR Upadhya, President ISAMPE addressed the members and invitees
on this occasion. Traditionally ISAMPE brings out a souvenir
on the occasion of its AGM. With the launch of e-souvenir, all
the advertisers will be benefited by having their services advertised
in the ISAMPE web-site for the entire year in addition to the
hard copy circulated at the time of AGM.
Members are requested to visit the web-site regularly to know
the activities of ISAMPE and give their suggestions and feed
back. It is proposed to list address of all the members in the
web-site. All the members are requested to check for the same
and inform when ever there is a change in their address for
better communication. The website has some new features like
technical articles, competitions in the field of materials and
processing, news items etc. I thank Dr PS Nair, past President,
ISAMPE for taking the initiative to upgrade the web-site with
e-souvenir and other features.
New Office Space:
In the previous year ISAMPE had acquired additional office space
adjacent to its office in the Aeronautical Society of India
Building, and renovated the entire office space. I am happy
to inform that the new office has been equipped with a computer,
printer with other accessories. This facility is being currently
shared by the Bangalore chapter for organising the INCCOM-2
Seminar.
Vijay Zaveri Centre for Composites
(VZCC):
Late Vijay Zaveri, founder Secretary, ISAMPE had a dream of
starting a school to train Technicians in the field of Composites.
His wife Rahsha Zaveri, an active member of ISAMPE Executive
Board has taken initiative to start "Vijay Zaveri Centre
for Composites" with the association of Panchajanya Vidya
Peetha Welfare Trust (PVPWT), PVP Polytechnic (PVPP) and Dr
Ambedkar Institute of Technology (Dr AIT) at Dr Ambedkar Institute
of Technology, Near Jnanabharati Campus, Mallathahalli, (outer
ring Road, near Nagarbahvi), Bangalore.
ISAMPE was closely associated with the establishment of VZCC
which was inaugurated by Prof UR Rao, Member, Space Commission
on 14th April 2003. VZCC has planned for a few training programmes
for technicians and teachers of polytechnics in the coming months
with a plan to introduce composites for diploma and degree courses
in future. On their request ISAMPE has agreed to help them in
organising these programmes. Dr CG Krishnadas Nair, Dr BR Somashekar
and Prof K Rajaiah, past Presidents of ISAMPE are on the Advisory
Board of VZCC.
