Dr. R. V. Krishnan, President, ISAMPE has inaugurated ISAMPE Coimbatore
Chapter on 26th March 2005 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Ettimadai
Campus, Coimbatore.The programme was witnessed by a large number of
senior ISAMPE members from Bangalore and Coimbatore.
The day’s programme started with a prayer and followed by
Lighting of the Lamp. The welcome address was given by Prof. R.
Subba Rao, Chairman, Department of Polymer Engineering, Amrita School
of Engineering, Coimbatore.
This was followed by a talk by Dr. Upadhya, Director, National
Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore & Past President of ISAMPE.
Dr. Upadhya traced the growth of ISAMPE from the initial efforts
to start Indian Chapters of SAMPE (USA.) chapter in India. He also
explained the aims and objectives of ISAMPE and the awards given
by ISAMPE in the field of development of materials and process engineering.
Presently ISAMPE has Chapters at Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore,
Hyderabad and Pune.
After the talk by Dr. Upadhya, Dr. V. Radhakrishnan, Director,
Research, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore and Dr. Martin
Jebraj, Pro Vice-chancellor of Karunya Institute of Technology,
Coimbatore briefly addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance
of the studies of material science and process engineering for the
economic development of our country.
Dr. R.V. Krishnan highlighted how advanced India was, in the field
of material science from times immemorial and the need to regain
its old glory. At the end of the talk he inaugurated the ISAMPE
Coimbatore Chapter by presenting the official scroll to Prof. Subba
Rao of Amrita School of Engineering.
A short multimedia presentation ‘clicked’ by Dr. R.V.
Krishnan signaled the launch of the new chapter.
Dr. B. R. Somasekhar offered the felicitation and advised that
the three leading institutes AMRITA, KARUNYA & PSG Technology
to come together, enhance the membership and work for the realization
of the objectives of ISAMPE. Offering felicitations, Dr. P.S.Nair
has stressed the importance and the role of professional societies
in enhancing the quality of profession itself.
This was followed by self-introduction of ISAMPE members from Coimbatore.
The inaugural programme ended by a technical talk on “Recent
Advances in Manufacturing and their Impact on Product Design”
and was presented by Dr. V. Radhakrishnan, Director, Research of
Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore. The PPT of the talk is

After the technical talk, all the participants joined for a delicious
lunch hosted by AVVP, Coimbatore.
