Conferences, Seminars and Workshops:

INCCOM VI

Continuing with the tradition of organizing conferences every year, ISAMPE Kanpur Chapter successfully organized INCCOM-VI Conference from December 12-14, 2007 at IIT Kanpur. The conference had international participation and had the theme of "Innovations in Composites for the New Century". This conference attracted both researchers and practitioners across the globe. The conference had 15 special/invited lectures by eminent scientists and researchers on different topics like fabrication to machining of advanced composites. This event attracted 250 participants, which included about 25 from abroad. The next conference in this series, INCCOM 7 is being organized by ISAMPE Bangalore Chapter and NAL from
December 4-5 2008.

Professor AK Rao Memorial Lecture – 2nd lecture

In memory of founder president Prof AK Rao, the Executive Board has decided to institute a lecture every year. As it is a difficult task to hold the talk on the exact date of birth, it has been decided that the lecture will be held in the month of September, the month he was born. The second Professor AK Rao memorial lecture was delivered by Dr Ivatury S Raju, NASA Technical Fellow for Structures, NASA Engineering and Safety Center, NASA Langley Research Center, Virginia, USA. Dr Raju spoke on the recent advances in computing engines and computing architectures, which have allowed comprehensive analyses to be performed in a relatively short amount of time. He brought out that advances in computers, analysis methods, and testing methods have interacted synergistically to create explosive growth in each of these areas. In his presentation, challenges faced by the structures community were discussed and technology barriers for future analysis methods were outlined.

    NAL- ISAMPE MOU

Advanced Composites Division (ACD), one of the major divisions of NAL conducted many conferences, workshops and events in the field of composites during the period from 1991 to 2001 and surplus funds received from these events were kept as deposits. The amount had subsequently grown to an amount of about Rs. 40,000,00/- (Rs. Forty Lakhs). After discussions and deliberations with the appropriate authorities of NAL, it was felt that the money kept in deposits would be best utilized if handed over to a professional society, which inter-alia promotes the cause of composites in the country. A decision was taken that the amount could be handed over to ISAMPE as an NAL endowment fund for a well defined specific purpose. The Executive Board of ISAMPE has, after due deliberations, agreed to accept the funds and conduct activities as agreed upon in the MOU. The fund has been named as “NAL Endowment for Composites Technology, Advancement and Research” or in the abbreviated form as ‘NECTAR’ The main OBJECTIVES are to Promote R&D activities in computational, experimental and theoretical aspects of composite materials and technologies and allied disciplines including smart materials and structures. In this connection, persons of great repute, of international stature, shall be invited to deliver lectures or conduct workshops/courses/seminars in the area of composites including smart materials and structures.

It has been a fruitful year for ISAMPE and all it’s Chapter’s. On behalf of the Executive Board, I would like to thank you all for your support and co-operation, and hope the same would be forthcoming this year and in the years to come. I wish you all a professionally satisfying association with the Society during the coming year.

    Thanking You
