Trivandrum Chapter ISAMPE Trivandrum
Chapter was formed in the year 1995, with professionals working in
leading research establishments of the country like Indian Space Research
Organization, Regional Research Laboratory and other industrial establishments.
These professionals have been working in the field of composite materials,
cryogenic materials, electronic materials, polymeric materials, high
strength steel alloys, aluminium alloys and smart materials for space
and allied applications. The chapter was formed with Shri Rajaram
Nagappa, former Associate Director, VSSC as the honorary secretary.
 The
chapter was inaugurated by Dr. PK Iyyengar, former chairman of Atomic
Energy commission. Dr. BR Somashekar, then the president of ISAMPE
presided over the function. A number of technical talks were conducted
by the chapter during the terms of this executive committee including
the technical talk by Dr. AR Acharya, Deputy Director VSSC (Aero)
on Smart Structures.
The next annual general body was held in the year 1997 and unanimously
elected Shri KS Sastri, Deputy Director, VSSC (PCM) as the Chairman
and Shri VK Jaardanan, GSLV as the honorary secretary. A one day
National Seminar Nano structures materials was conducted in May
1998. This seminar was inaugurated by late Dr. S. Srinivasan, former
Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center. Dr. KL Chopra, former Director
of IIT, Kharagpur and Professor emirates, IIT, New Delhi was the
guest of honour and delivered the key note address. About 100 delegates
from all over India participated in the seminar. A number of technical
talks were also conducted during this period of the executive committee
to name a few, Dr. Doru Michael Stefanescu University of Alahaa,
USA, Prof. Vinood J. Mody, University of British Columbia, Dr. AK
Thaneja, Dr. Suresh and Dr. Subramanium of ISAC, and Dr. BK Das,
Executive Director, Centre for materials and electronic technology,
Pune. A national seminar & exhibition (SEM 2000) was also organized
in association with other professional bodies of Trivandrum. This
seminar was inaugurated by Dr. R. Chidambaram, Chairman, Atomic
Energy Commission in April 2000.
The last executive committee with Mr. MC Mittal, Group Director,
Materials Group, VSSC as Chairman and Shri VK Jaardanan, as honorary
secretary was elected by the last general body. They have conducted
the National workshop on Advanced composite Materials, on 10th February,
2001. This workshop at Trivandrum was organized as a part of NASCOMP-2001,
which was conducted at Bangalore by the parent Chapter of ISAMPE
and SAMPE International.
The present executive committee with Mr.M. Enamuthu, Head, Composite
Structures Division , VSSC as Chairman and Shri Shaji Thomas, VSSC
as honorary secretary was elected by the last general body. The
present executive committee has already planned to conduct the First
ISAMPE National conference on Composite , on 3rd and 4th May 2002.
A National Advisory Board with Shri RV Perumal, Associate Director,
VSSC as Chairman and an organising Committee are formed for this
purpose.
